'Clinic' in Kaohsiung solves problems with automobile interiors...

In redoing the interior of automobiles, people now have the choice of going to a "clinic" to seek out help in how to best carry out the job. Fengshan City just outside of Kaohsiung is home to a "seat doctor," who provides services for seats in the areas of "orthopedics," "internal medicine," and "dermatology." Residents can take their automobiles to the doctor and have the specialist examine issues concerning the frame, the convertible roof and leather on the seats. Once you arrive at the clinic, you take a number in order to line up to register for a diagnosis and then the "doctors" immediately come to help repair what needs to be repaired and make it as good as new.

"The Seat Doctor" is located on Fengsung Road. Outside of the clinic hangs a big white sign that indicates all the areas of assistance that the doctor can provide. For example, if one chooses orthopedic therapy, the "doctor" will take a detailed look at the frame of the automobile, and the springs in the seat. Those selecting therapy focusing on internal medicine will see their automobiles get examined in the areas of their convertible roofs, paper that is affixed to different places to reflect the heat, as well as having the leather in the cars repaired or cleaned. The doctor in charge of dermatology will examine any tears or damage in the material covering the car and its interiors. The specialists also are able to diagnose and repair any problems with the leather on imported cars, and even carry out coloring or dying to make sure that colors are consistent with the originals.

The automobile interior industry has started to market itself as if they were doctors too, except for cars rather than humans. Advertisements in the industry are full of creativity. While the handwritten sign outside of the clinic may not appear to be overly high tech, more than a few people have mistaken the actual meaning of the signs and have appeared at the clinic to seek assistance for their own health problems.

Hsueh Chin-tien is the owner of the "seat doctor" clinic. Even though the clinic may not look overly impressive on the outside, Hsueh said that the members of the clinic are extremely experienced and are experts in what they do. The clinic has 15 employees, which each one having over 10 years of experience in the manufacture or repair of automobile seats. The clinic also has samples of over a thousand different types of leather seats for all type of cars. No matter what type of automobile one might have, as long as you have the model of the car, the workers at the clinic can within three minutes figure out the size and specifications.

Hsueh said that the business has been in operation for over 10 years and that his business at one time or another has replaced or repaired the interior for just about all types of car on the market. He said that he once repaired the interior of a 26-year-old Yulon automobile. Hsueh said that in fact the owner of the vehicle had kept the car in great shape and that even to this day the car still is in fabulous form.
