HAYFEVER affects 15 per cent of Scots and can ruin the summer - well, what passes for summer here.

It is basically an allergic reaction and the most common culprits are tree and grass pollen and house dust mites.

There are a number of over the - counter medications that can be taken to reduce the symptoms and most of these work pretty well.

Big Brother twins Sam and Amanda are backing the Green Nose campaign to highlight the plight of sufferers.

Sam said: "We have suffered from hay fever since we were little. I remember summer holidays with sneezing fits and medicine."
