FDA hears concern about proposed new version of OxyContin...

WASHINGTON (AP) - New questions are surfacing about a new version of the painkiller OxyContin.

Government advisers are voicing concerns whether the medicine, with a new plastic-like coating, would be harder to crush. That method is used by drug abusers who inject or snort the powder, which is sometimes called "hillbilly heroin."

The Food and Drug Administration is hearing from an advisory panel which is recommending more testing. The FDA has expressed concerns about verifying a product being sold with the claim of being tamper-resistant, and whether or not this new version of the drug could backfire.
